Well, we are at the halfway mark of November. Remember, the goal of National Novel Writing Month is to write 50,000 words on a novel between Nov. 1 and Nov. 30. I have good news and not so good news.
First, the good news
I have written over 16,000 words since November 1. Let me say it again. Over sixteen thousand words. On my Christmas romance. I am elated about that. It’s more than I’ve written since April. It feels good to be back in the saddle again.
The not so good news
By this point in this post you’ve probably already done the math. If we’re halfway through November and my goal is 50,000 words then I am nine thousand words short. Ideally, I’d be at 25,000 words by now. But I’m not worried. There’s still time to get to 50K. But, as I mentioned, I’m already thrilled to be at 16K. I do not feel like a failure. At all.
I’m achieving my goal of WRITING AGAIN. So, success. And I may still get to 50,000 words. I’ll keep working toward it.
But in this tumultuous, Covid-19 world I refuse to put undue stress on myself and focus on what’s lacking. I will focus on all I have. And right now that’s 16,000 words.
