Something Old, Something New
Hallmark Channel went out on a limb this weekend with their two new movies in their Countdown to Christmas 2020. I’ve reviewed both movies on my YouTube Channel.
A Nashville Christmas Carol
Drawing on one of the oldest familiar Christmas stories (but not THE Christmas story), A Nashville Christmas Carol is Hallmark Channel’s update of A Christmas Carol. It was filmed on location in Nashville, TN and starred some big names in the country music world, but if you’re looking for a faithful remake of the Dickens classic I’d steer clear of this one.
The Christmas House
Hallmark Channel’s other new weekend offering was the family drama, The Christmas House. This movie was noteworthy because it featured the first married gay couple in a Hallmark Channel movie. But, as someone who’s been married for 28 years — twenty-eight years!—I thought it was also noteworthy that they spent time on struggles that can arise in a long-term marriage, even though I took issue with how the script executed it. However, Hallmark Channel gets bonus points on both fronts. This feel-good, family-centered movie is definitely worth watching.
If you watched either or both movies, I’d love to know what you thought.
